Fishing in Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico

April 3 @ 8:00 am - April 25 @ 5:00 pm

If you have never been to Loreto, you are in for a huge surprise!  The small and quaint village of Loreto sits on the coast of the Sea of Cortez facing the picturesque Isla de Carmen, some 850 miles south of Los Angeles. Just to the north a couple of miles from the Isla de Carmen is the Isla Coronado, while to the south there are three more Islands called the Isla Danzante, the Isla Montserrat, and the Isla de Catalina which are all situated in the largest National Marine Park in Mexico. Previously over-fished by commercial fishing boats, this area of the Sea of Cortez has bounced back since the Mexican Presidential decree in the year 1996.  I started fishing in Loreto in 1994 and continue to fish there to date. I can attest to the abundance of sea life that has returned. Yellowtails are the most sought-after fish, which grow to the size of toaster ovens, followed by Mahi Mahi (Dolphin fish), Skipjack tuna and Yellowfin tuna.  Also, you may see the dorsal fins of Marlin and Sailfish which are fun to catch, however we practice catch-and-release for these large pelagic fish.  Check out the “Loreto Fish Report” on Facebook to see what is currently happening… There are also many good scuba diving spots within minutes of the Loreto Marina, “El Malecon”!  Gear rentals make it easy.

We offer fishing trips to Loreto that are all inclusive and cost nothing to First Responders and Veterans, who may silently suffer while living with Post Traumatic Stress brought on by the multitude of events that they witness while doing their jobs.  Are you ready to leave all of that behind and enjoy the company of your peers or spouses? Everyone knows that spouses or partners have a lot to endure while you’re away saving lives, also a form of PTSD.

The flight to Loreto takes only 2 hours from Los Angeles.  We leave LAX on Saturdays and return on Wednesdays every week when we fill the slots with 4 to 6 people. Saturday offers a good chance to wander around Loreto after you arrive, taking in the culture that this small town called Loreto has to offer. Early Sunday morning we leave to catch bait and then go after the Yellowtail! Afterwards we can enjoy a beach barbeque on the sandy beaches of La Isla Coronado, a chance to talk about the one that got away… Monday, we take you on an excursion of the area and visit an awesome Mission up in the Sierra de la Giganta Mountains west of Loreto, in the very small village of San Javier. It was built in 1699!  There is also a Mission in Loreto, built in 1697 that is right in the Plaza in the heart of Loreto that you can check out between fishing and stuff.  Tuesday, we return to fishing off the Isla de Coronado or wherever the fish might be, and Wednesday the flight back to Los Angeles leaves at 2pm giving ample time to have breakfast and pack your stuff and hang out for a while.

We know from our experiences that a group of individuals who are your peers have found relief from stress and PTSD while spending time fishing together, and a few other activities!  Let’s set up a trip that can replace some traumatic memories with a bunch of fun memories.  Did I mention meditation, yoga, exercise and group chats?  We can also set up trips with your peers from different regions, giving you the chance to make new friends!

If you are interested or know someone that needs a break from “work related” traumatic stress, let’s talk!  Please send us an email to: SeekingAngelsFoundation@gmail.com
